The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program is an exciting new program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start.  The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is an incentive program for loving dog owners who have taken the time to take their puppies through a basic training class.  The Class offers new puppy owners an opportunity to socialize their puppies to “friendly strangers” (instructors, other owners and other puppies) and to build the puppy’s confidence in various situations.  You will be taught how to begin teaching the basic commands of dog obedience to your puppy in a safe, structured environment.

You’ll be able to get information on all of you puppy raising questions including housetraining, chewing and the most effective way to teach practical skills such as coming when called.  AKC S.T.A.R Puppy training is a natural lead in to the AKC® Canine Good Citizen® Program.

All classes are taught with positive training techniques that are easy to follow and very effective.  You will learn how to create a management system for your dog or puppy as well as how to create the proper pack structure in a way that your dog understands.  It’s like learning how to speak to your dog!

Our puppy class will address:

  • Name recognition
  • Sit
  • Down
  • Loose lead walking
  • Handling & grooming exercises
  • Fun recalls
  • Confidence building exercises
  • Potty training
  • Behavior modifications such as chewing, mouthing, bite inhibition
  • Conditioning exercises for a life time of positive behaviors
  • An introduction to simple obedience commands, such as “sit,” “come” and “stay”
  • Attention and handler focus by puppy
  • Learn basic manners
  • Practice socialization with people and other dogs
  • Introduce crate training

You’ll attend puppy or basic training class at least 6 weeks.  Your instructor will administer the AKC S.T.A.R Puppy test at the end of the course.  Upon passing the test, you’ll get an application to send to AKC® for enrollment in the AKC S.T.A.R Puppy Program.

For Class you will need to bring the following:  Your puppy should be on a collar/harness and leash, a towel or mat, poop bag, brush and dog treats.

Advanced Puppy

This class builds upon the skills learned in the STAR Puppy class and is a pre-requisite.  The class continues to work on loose lease walking, recall, sits and downs.  The class includes attention and focus games.  It also includes exercises to build the bond between the puppy and handler.

For Class you will need to bring the following:  Your dog should be on a leash with a collar, crate, poop bag and dog treats.
